Cicada Killer Wasps – YouTube
Check out this video we found on YouTube, the Cicada Killer Wasps are mating in a man’s hand!
They are called “Cicada Killer” because they prey on cicadas. These wasp burrow into the ground. They like the ground to be loose clay to sandy soils. They will live on your property as long as their needs are met…. sunshine, dirt with great drainage, and cicadas to eat!
One thing I find fascinating about this wasp, other than the size, is that they aren’t a threat to us – unless you step on one or harass it, then they will retaliate and sting you! They aren’t aggressive in their behavior. They are so focused on the other Cicada Killer Wasps and Cicada’s that they really don’t pay much attention to us. The female is the one that does the stinging. She paralyzes the Cicada to carry it back to her burrow. The male, on the other hand, does not have a stinger.
However, play it safe and stay away from them, especially if you are allergic to stinging bugs. Seek medical advise as you might end up with anaphylactic shock. If you already have these on your property, it is best to stay away from them and call a professional exterminator, Bug Cops Pest Control, and see what we can do to help eliminate this problem.
